Episode-1 Bhagavad Gita with Sri Shankaracharya's Bhashya (in Hindi) by Swami Pitambarananda
"The Bhagavad GIta with Sri Shankayacharya's Bhasya in Hindi" is a lecture-series delivered by Swami Pitambarananda. This lecture-series was conducted by Advaita Ashrama, starting from 11 April 2022.
The Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the epic Mahabharata, dated to the second half of the first millennium BCE and is typical of the Hindu synthesis. It is considered to be one of the holy scriptures for Hinduism.
Swami Pitambarananda is a senior monk of the Ramakrishna Order. He was born in 1937 in Gwalior. In 1959, having completed his M.Sc. in Mathematics at Gwalior, he joined the Ramakrishna Math at Nagpur at the age of 22. During 1959-1968 at Nagpur and 1968-1970 at Belur Math, he received training in the spiritual life, scriptures, and various service activities. During 1970-78 he handled responsible positions in Nagpur Math; there he was one of the editors of the Marathi monthly journal ‘Jivan-Vikas’, he was the in-charge of the Public Library and Reading Room, and also he was the warden of Vivekananda Vidyarthi Bhavan, a Students’ Home for college students. During 1978-79 he spent one year in solitude at Ramakrishna Math Kutir, Rishikesh. During 1979-1982 he discoursed on Vedanta and allied spiritual topics while staying in Ramakrishna Math, Mumbai. During 1982-1992 he served as the warden and assistant secretary at Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home, Chennai where he held scriptural classes for the monastics in the Home, which were attended by monastics from the Ramakrishna Math, Chennai also, and he also delivered public discourses on Vedanta, etc. at Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. During 1992-2002 he was the head of the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Chandigarh, and was responsible for preaching work throughout Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. During 2002-2012 he did intense spiritual practices mainly at Ramakrishna Math Kutir, Rishikesh. From July 2012 onwards, on earnest invitations from Ramakrishna Mission Centres and associated institutions in various parts of India, he has been moving from place to place and discoursing on Vedanta, Ramakrishna-Sarada Devi-Vivekananda bhavadhara, and on matters of paramount importance in human life to the monastics of the Ramakrishna Order, associated Sadhakas, devotees, students, teachers, and the general public.
